1.Urban design

The existing urban center in the city Orlová-Lutyně illustrates the typical urban concept in the 60s-80s of the 20th century. A industrial construction of urban settlements with fewer technological processes.

In this area, the basic urban idea which would help the public to orientate oneself in the city is missing is completely.

The proposal seeks to finish the existing facilities and address a clear idea of a return to urban elements. The presented solution assumes the creation of a new city center. The area is now a divided by a four-lane major road Masarykova třída. This communication is a barrier for the current main pedestrian route that connects the sports and recreation area with the current city center. Therefore the proposal is a partial recessing of the communication at the junction of the main traffic and pedestrian axes.

2. Spatial composition

Within the existing buildings is proposed an invention, which is seeking a clear hierarchy of spaces. The contemporary square is closed to the newly designed 7-floors building, which together with the boundary pergola, colonnade and the marketplace clearly complements and defines a new square. To this important area a pedestrian bridge is connected to the core complex of the buildings where it creates a pedestrian shopping street parallel to the Masarykova třída street. From this street it is seperated with a 4 to 7 floor building. The main emphasis of this area is the church, which is closing the pedestrian path and gradually transforms it into a new town park. A low residential house on the level of the church is proposed as an intermediate transition between the business and administrative city street and the park. From the view-line from the southwest is the whole complex closed with a triangular glass building, which creates an object with square-shaped commercial and cultural area. The proposal was the creation of such a spatial layout, which would evoke, that centuries have verified the structure of the city. That is, using streets, squares and malls with greenery, parks, alleys lined with houses and trees. The aim was to create an environment which would help to clear the orientation by alternating rhythms of buildings, location of the cross axis orientation landmarks such as the obelisk, a church or a small architecture.

3. Functional composition

The architectural and urban design addresses not only the distribution and composition of common masses, but their functional structure, which they should express. The proposal for the distribution of the functions is, that the whole complex serves integrally and functionally balanced. At the same time, each object must represent the architectural expression of their functional content.

The current center is completed in the southeast with a building with commercial premises, a hotel or administration. The square area is enriched in functional terms of the space marketplace, which is located in the middle of the longitudinal axis of the square. At the market, follows a covered colonnade covered pedestrian bridge.

The entire proposed complex of buildings is designed so that they can respond flexibly to the need for changes in function (functional flexibility). The design of functional pieces is easy to read, the commercial, business and corporate character is situated on the Masarykova třída street, the commercial streets, residential houses and hotels in a quieter part of the last row of the housing estates, which passes slowly into the city park.

4. Compositional links

The proposal responds to the basic conditions of the competition. Create a pedestrian route linking the major activity areas and also to resolve the collision node of the route with the major communication Masarykova třída. The walking trail leading from the sport - recreational area begins with a monumental building (rentable area), where the axis is a passage that follows to the marketplace. The marketplace along with a colonnade is situated on the axis of the hiking trails. The compositional axes strengthen the co-location of the pergola, which creates, along with the green area their rhythm of human scale and clearly allocates space devoted to commercial and shopping area. At this node follows a foot path that results to the bridge into a new complex on the square and the commercial street. The axis is ended by the dominating church and the route continues into the sloping terrain park in the direction of the proposed housing development. The axis of this square is the architectural and urban planning with elements stretched line and linked to the current pedestrian path ending with a commercial center and the hotel Doubravan.

+ +5. Architectural Design + +

The overall expression of the proposed complex is trying to show its architectural breakdown of the various functions, but also its rhythm, gradation and other compositional elements in relation to the urban design and to create a massive center of the same architectural feeling.
